Brahminy Kite

I think this is a Brahminy Kite. It was circling over the Brisbane River today when we went for our lunchtime walk.

I took this handheld, and obviously a bigger zoom would have caught a closer shot, this one is fairly heavily cropped. However, it is my first semi-decent raptor in flight shot.

Name: Brahminy Kite

Scientific Name: Haliastur Indus

I'm going to use this shot for 26Things - Fly.

it looks a very beautiful bird, never easy to catch them well, but you did !!

It's not quite as clear as I'd like, but then not bad for the S2, handheld :)

Yes, very nice capture. I found the IS on the S3 worked against me when trying this sort of shot, even when I switched to panning mode.

It varies for me. I find the IS can be useful but sometimes not, doesn't really seem to be any set formula.
