Thats a nice silhouette! I was wondering what you used for the blue background?

Terrific shot mate! Just wonderful. You're really getting the hang of this strobist stuff - too complex for me (natural light is about all I can deal with; perhaps a reflector or diffuser).

Love the spray of hair below her face, and the shoulder blade.

Yeah I'm with Louise...I dunno what a strobist is.

But I know I like this photo.

Awesome silhouette David... I love those strands of hair sticking out below her chin!! Excellent background colour too... blue is so cool, just like a Bond-girl!!

    Thanks :)

It was.... Tahitian Blue, I think.

You should have come Louise, we were short of models! :-)

    Strobists - as in strobist.com
Or basically, lighting geeks taking photos ;-)

The background is a white sheet of velveteen with a flash on a stand positioned behind Kara pointing at it, and a blue "gel" (piece of blue transparent plastic) put over it.

Thanks Andrew, not bad for what was essentially a happy accident (the front flash didn't fire, but the back one did).

That 100mm macro lens is ideal for portraits. I used it almost exclusively yesterday :)

See answer to Louise above :)

Thanks Paul. Yep, Bond Girl was what came to mind the instant I saw the review on the LCD :)

  • David de Groot said:
Thanks Jim, worked out better than if I'd planned it :)

Hmmmm, yeah I don't think I could do that justice. Anyone with AfterEffects experience that wants to make an animation out of it, let me know ;-)
