I found some shell ginger in bloom today (not just the buds), so for those curious what the actual flowers are like, here they are :) View large for appropriate detail.

Ginger as in the kind used in cookery and medicine?

    Hey Thanks Richard!

I was quite surprised Melissa, it's almost orchid like inside.

Kind of Margot, this variety is, I believe, ornamental only, but it's the same family of plant as the eating variety.

Very exotic plant! You really did a great job capturing it.

Thanks Mark :) I'd stopped to check out a different shot and when I turned around there it was. The first shot didn't turn out too well, but a bit of EV adjustment and the second one was a winner.

I hvae never seen it flowering. I was always in Budderium during the summer school holidays. It is a neat shot.

I hadn't seen them flower before this either. Only the white and pink buds (which I'd mistaken as the whole flower). :)
