Shot in the lovely late afternoon light on Saturday afternoon at the Abbey Medieval Festival, Abbeystowe, Caboolture, Qld.
Ordinarily one would not shoot into the sun due to the flaring that occurs, but in this case, the rim lighting and yes, even the flaring was desired for the overall effect.
This may be Gecko's last Abbey Festival as next year another larger horse will be coming instead.

Stunning light!
This is a great shot David, the backlight is just stunning!
Awesome work mate :-)
lovely, and I want that horse !
Gahh, great light. Love the low contrast here.
That's incredible David - what a scene.
Medieval shot!
Even in another time the quality of the photos is perfect!
Incredible shot! Your choice to shoot into the sun was spot on.
great capture!
love the light in this scene, fairylike!

wow! .. what a wonderful shot it is! .. awesome work!
impressive shot friend..nice to meet u! congras exlpored!
Wow Dave... backlighting has never looked this good before!! Pity about the slightly distracting background... as much as it helps to put this scene in context... I suspect that the image would be a little stronger without it.
Yep - nice light Dave. Very nice horse too.
Very medieval of you :-)
Great one! Yeah, next year if the yard's built I'm bringing Geordie. He's been to the Abbey once before, some people should have some shots of him already. Echo looks lovely though, and so does Bell.
Absolutely beautiful image.
Brilliant shot David. Even though you shot into the sun on purpose it adds that warming effect to the photo. :D

The light with the shadows is beautiful and Gecko, and Belinda, are beautiful, too :)
wow..
A perfect capture of a beautiful moment.

Bonjour, je suis un administrateur du groupe Symphonie féminine, et nous aimerions beaucoup que vous ajoutiez votre photo à notre groupe.
Beautiful lighting! The purple bin and the wristband/watch remind us what era this really is, otherwise it looks so old-world.

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/44946121@N07] Sure was - very happy the sun made a late appearance.
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/35721393@N03] Thanks Simon. Outdoor events can be a tough gig and you have to work with the conditions you're presented with, but then you get moments like this that make all the hard work worthwhile.

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/geoff_francis] I need to do a couple of edits for the final image Geoff, see if I can remove the wheelie bin and the blue weekend pass wrist strap on Belinda, but I couldn't resist posting the nearly-out-of-camera version last night before crashing into bed.

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/panorama_paul] Thanks Paul. My main beef with the background are the non-period elements like the blue wheelie bin. I couldn't really open up the aperture any further without losing depth of field on the horse (not that the lens opens up any further anyway - f/2.8 is as wide as it goes with that one). I admit though, a similar shot with sparse trees but without the festival tents and people would also be lovely.
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/suburbanvoodoo] Thanks Danny. One has to step back in time every now and then.
