Good question Helen, I honestly don't know. In fact, I don't think I've ever heard them make any noise (I'm sure they do, just not around me).

Helen, maybe I have heard them then, and didn't recognise the sound as being very duck-like. I'm curious now and will have to make an effort to hear one.
