I partook in a special all day shoot with the Australian Napoleonic Association today at Fort Lytton. Many hundreds of photographs were taken, and after most of the others had left a few of us die-hard photographers (well ok, those that can talk the leg off an iron pot), were still around to witness a fairly impressive sunset and make the most of it by including one of the re-enactors in silhouette.

Cracking silhouette Dave!
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/prischl] Thanks Phil. 'twas a loooong day, but I reckon I got some decent images out of it, and we helped a wee lass with cancer in the process.
Very striking. The sky sky and the silhouetted figure make it work nicely.
The only nitpick I'd add is that you could crop away some of the sky to make the figure more prominent.
Wonderful processing and capture. Wish I had one like that ;)
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/xenedis] I did think of that... but then, the sky is most of the point. I have one at 600mm which is a very prominent silhouette, but lacks the impact of the sky.
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/allan_nielsen] Oh I'm sure you do :P
wow, stunning image. the sky is just perfect!
ah not tonight Josephine....I'm admiring the sunset !
glad you could help a wee lass with cancer and get to take loads of piccies, cant be bad
It pays to wait for the sun to set. Amazing
Fantastic shot Dave. It looks like it was worth staying around until the sunset.
Aye; I figured you wanted the sky, and I don't blame you at all.
You did great mate !!!!
Lovely image Dave. Definitely looks like the end of the day's battle and surveying the land for tomorrow's.
There's not many times everything comes into place for shots like this.
Exceptional work, Dave.
Excellent shot Dave
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/35740852@N05] Definitely worked well for us :)
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/33085391@N00] hehehe precisely ;-) 'twas a good day all round and I tried a few new things too.
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/21766727@N00] Indeed it does :) Got some great colour in the sky after this too.
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/tristenmurray] Sure was!
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/13989102@N04] Thanks Nick. :)
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/darvidanoar] These guys are really good at their authentic looking poses.
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/teejaybee] That's for sure!
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/dougterrill] Thanks!
Awesome shot
I love how you have positioned him smack bang in the middle of that bit of cloud.
Interesting to note that it was taken at 200mm F/2.8 .. there is still a fair bit of cloud detail. Shows how the depth of field increases with any given aperture as the distance moves away.
Who was the one who asked him to go up there and pose?
I just remember turning around, seeing him up there with that sky and going "holy shit" as I fumbled for my camera... I've never seen 4 photographers mobilize so quickly.
I haven't looked at my shots yet.
Now thats a keeper!!!
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/mikesenior] Indeed :)
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/spasmoid] I think it was Allan as we'd been standing around discussing how the cloud was about to change colour. ;-)
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/lizayorkston] Thanks Liza - pretty much knew we were in for a show at sunset and thus hung around for it.
What else can you say mate - Stunning!!!
Nice work Dave. It always pays to be the last to pack away the camera!

Awesome! I did like Fort Lytton a lot, that time we did a Strobist shoot there. It has an amazing feel to it.
Oh, wow! That came out beautifully. I was really sad I had to leave early in the afternoon, and now even more so. We really enjoyed ourselves. Nice job with that shot!!
Excellent photo! There's something in the sense of "I just conquered the world!" about it... Wonderful work!
Thanks everyone - 'twas an excellent shoot and now I really should process up the rest of them.
A beautiful silhouette shot..
