Allan

One of the shots taken while I was setting up the lights at today's AP portrait meet.

Lighting: Canon 580exII @ 1/4 power into brolly box, camera right.

Canon 580exII @ 1/8th power into silver brolly, camera left.

Both triggered by CyberSyncs. I added a separation/hair light after this.

    Hello Allan..

Really just a lighting test shot, but I liked the low-key feel to it. I'm sure Allan will disagree, but I have the advantage of being home before him ;-)

I like this, it's easy to look at and has a welcoming feel. Seems relaxed and natural.

Thanks Jack. I added a hair light for subsequent shots which provided a bit more separation from the background, but didn't get to shoot Allan with that setup.

I only got to know Alan with a hat, so here I see what's underneath

Seen on your photo stream. (?)

Thanks James :) Pretty simple lighting setup, but it works well and is easy to reproduce.
Ah yes, like me, he's frequently only seen in the wild with a black hat ;-)

    well done,
The lighting is just right for the side of his face, not too much shadow,,
was wondering, what is an AP portrait meet up?

Thanks David, it's not too bad a shot ;), but I'm sure glad that hair light wasn't used in this, you need to have hair for them to work otherwise the reflection is enough to put any metering out ;). Had a great time, and thanks for the help you provided.

Ah, AP is the Australian Photography forum. I hang around there a fair bit too, and finally made it to a meet.
hehehe of I'd have lit up what hair there is ;-)
