Very nice - big turnout?
David de Groot said: I felt they made more sense together :) Surprisingly no - I'm not sure what usual attendance is like, but it's nowhere near as well attended as The Abbey is. Good for Photographers though as you can get shots without tourists in them ;-)

id assume they missed :P
David de Groot said: No, they took their toll in the end:

terrific shot

Very good. Well put together, and both very interesting shots individually.

Seen in my contacts' photos. (?)
David de Groot said: Thanks Jack, yep, I liked both shots, esp. the gunner one, but felt they worked better as a pair than individually.

All great shots, Dave!

Bloody cool mate!
David de Groot said: Yes I was quite surprised that they'd organised an air-raid and pretty happy with what I caught :)

ohhhh I was going to say how awesome it was composed, until i saw that they're 2 different photos.. Still though, good work mate!
David de Groot said: hehehe, I'd be incredibly impressed with myself if I could have got both photos in the one frame, with the same level of detail and focus... (somewhat an impossibility).

Maybe a fisheye on a 1ds III would do it :)
David de Groot said: Well you'd get them both in, but I doubt they'd appear the same size in the frame. Still, if you give me the kit, I'll try my hardest to reproduce it ;-)

Great diptych Dave .. I thought the air-raid was a spectacular addition to the event this year and you've caught the vibe nicely :)
I'm an admin for a group called History Alive, and we'd love to have this added to the group!

Seen on your photo stream. (?)
David de Groot said: Thanks :)
I noticed there was no flickr group for History Alive, even thought about starting one, but didn't... ;-)

I especially like the bottom shot - I bet it's amazing in B&W
David de Groot said: You're right (I just checked) it does look pretty good in b&w :)
What's possibly not as noticeable in this diptych is the heat haze around the gun. I missed getting a flare out of the barrel (it fires quite rapidly), but got the haze.
-Gadabout- said:
You're right it is hard to spot the heat haze...I even looked at the largest size image and couldn't spot it. Nice diptych though - they go really well together :)
David de Groot said: I've posted a B&W version now.
-Gadabout- said:
Awesome :D There's so much detail - superb focus :)
David de Groot said: Thanks :) And the best part is there's no modern stuff in the background.
-Gadabout- said:
Absolutely :) The only thing that gives it away is those uniforms...in a real battle they'd be covered in muck and wearing helmets. You could've thrown a bucket of mud on them and then taken the shot :P
David de Groot said: Oh I suppose in a real no-notice air-raid, helmets might be forgotten (although I'd be darn sure to grab mine if in that situation).
